A ‘registrant transfer’ occurs when one registrant transfers their domain name to another eligible entity. A new (1-5 year) licence will be issued to the new registrant once the transfer is complete and the domain name will be registered in the name of the new registrant with their contact details.
To initiate the registrant transfer process you will need to contact your registrar of record, who will require you to provide details of the transfer and other relevant information. If you don’t know who your registrar is, you can find out by doing a WHOIS search.
To transfer a .au domain licence to another registrant:
- you must be eligible to hold the name at the date of the transfer;
- the name can't be subject to any complaint, dispute or court proceedings.
You cannot transfer a name which has expired or been cancelled or deleted.
The person to whom the name is being transferred must be eligible to hold the name. They'll need to enter into a new licence agreement with the registrar, and select a licence period.
Registrars are required to:
- check that both parties are eligible to hold the name at the time the transfer takes place;
- transfer the name within two calendar days of the request.

Fees for registrant transfers
Your registrar may charge a fee for performing a registrant transfer. This fee is set by the registrar and will vary between registrars.
