Laura Russo from IP Australia will lead the discussion, providing a comprehensive introduction to intellectual property (IP) that will cover:  

  • The basics of IP  
  • The differences between trade marks, domain names and business names  
  • The reasons protecting your IP early is crucial, and;  
  • How a solid IP strategy can give your business a competitive edge.  

Attendees will also learn about tools like TM Checker, a free trade mark availability checker, and other resources to help navigate the IP system effectively.

About the speaker

Laura Russo is acting Director of Strategic Projects and Initiatives in the Trade Marks and Designs Group at IP Australia. She has previously worked in international policy and cooperation, led a trade marks examination section, and participated in an examiner exchange with the Intellectual Property Office of New Zealand. Laura provided trade marks subject matter expertise to the development of TM Checker, IP Australia's free trade mark availability check, and is passionate about helping Australian businesses learn more about IP.
