Foodie Shots is a Queensland-based food photography business owned by Kat Lynn. Kat notes her business encompasses more than taking a good picture, it is about creating an emotional connection between the viewer and her images. Kat explains, “I am a visual storyteller as well as a photographer and my business is about creating emotion. Through my photography, I tell the story of the brand as well as the people behind the businesses I’m working with”.
Cultivating a virtual portfolio
Foodieshots.com.au is Kat’s virtual portfolio. She has designed it to be her online shop window where people can learn about her services and view her work. “When your website is as critical to your business as mine is, every photo and every aspect of your website must help you connect with your customers and ultimately earn you money.”
Kat also helps other businesses build their own virtual portfolios by running workshops to improve their food photography skills. “Since COVID, businesses better understand the importance of showing up digitally. I can’t be in their pocket 24/7 so I help smaller businesses take better photos. It’s about elevating these businesses, which helps them grow and contribute to our economy and community.”
Online storytelling
As a photographer, Kat understands that visual cues can be powerful communicators. She says, “The way visuals are presented is critical because that's what captures the attention of the audience. The best compliment I ever received about Foodie Shots was that my photos of food make people want to lick the screen.”
In the same way, she understands that two simple letters, “.au” can communicate a lot. On her decision to choose a com.au domain name, Kat says “I chose com.au because I’m an Australian business and I want my website to reflect that.”
