State and territory domain names

State or territory domain names can be registered by not-for-profit organisations including peak state and territory bodies, and community groups.   

This can include associations and governing bodies for sports, societies supporting the arts, or community groups aiming to serve people in their area. 

For the full definition of not-for-profit entities that are eligible for a state or territory namespace, refer to Part 2.4.9 of the .au Licensing Rules. 

The state and territory domain name you choose must match, be related to or an acronym of the name of the organisation registering the domain name, or reflect a project or program provided by the registrant.  If you’re a community group the domain name can also be the geographic name in which the organisation operates e.g. brunswick.vic.au
