A domain licence can be renewed via your registrar.
.au domain licences can only be renewed a maximum of 90 days before the licence expiry date.
Your registrar will email you when your name can be renewed, and reminders as the end of the licence period approaches, so it’s important you keep your contact details up to date and ensure that registrar emails aren’t being sent to your spam folder.
To renew your domain licence you must be eligible for the name, agree to the terms and conditions and pay the applicable licence fee.
The term of the new licence will begin on the expiry date of the old one.
What happens if you don’t renew your domain licence?
If your licence has expired you have a 30-day grace period in which to renew it.
You won’t be able to use or update your domain while it’s in the grace period, meaning you website and email will stop working.
However, names in the 30-day expiry period can still be renewed via your registrar and also transferred to another registrar (although it can't be transferred to another registrant in this period).
If you don’t renew the within the grace period your name will be purged from the registry and become publicly available to register.
TIP: Keep a close track of your domain expiry dates and check to ensure you receive all email notifications from your registrar. Forgetting to renew your domain name could pose a serious risk to your business.
