A domain password or authorisation code is a code you need to perform specific actions related to your domain name such as requesting a licence transfer.
The authorisation code for your domain name is different to the password for your registrar account.
When you register a domain name you can choose your own authorisation code or have it automatically generated by your registrar.
An authorisation code must contain:
- between 13 and 32 characters;
- have at least one letter (a-z) and one number (0-9); and
- have no dictionary words.
It’s important to ensure your authorisation code is kept secure. You must report to your registrar any codes you believe have been lost or stolen, or accessed by someone else.

This tool will send your authorisation code to the registrant email address listed in the registry (which you can check with a WHOIS search).
Changing your authorisation code
As registrant, you can change your domain's authorisation code at any time via your registrar.
You must reset your authorisation code within two days of transferring a domain name to a new registrar. If you don't, your registrar must reset it and provide it to you within 24 hours of changing it.
